About us... Elgin Artists is a disparate group of men and women with individual interests and artistic styles. It is art that joins us together. No matter whether our art takes the form of painting, drawing or sculpture it allows us to express ourselves and communicate with others. We foster all types of visual art and all styles of expression including traditional realism, impressionism, surrealism, and abstraction. Our painting uses a range of media such as watercolour, oil, acrylic, gouache, pastel, lino cut, pencil, graphite and ink.
We encourage our members to express their feelings and imagination through their art. Our studio in Hawthorn is the venue for painting, sharing resources, and experimenting in new techniques – as well as solving the problems of the world.
Most importantly, we enjoy each other’s company. Our fun is the company of others and the discussion during coffee and lunch breaks. We enjoy travelling together to art exhibitions in Melbourne and provincial galleries, as well as en plein air expeditions in Australia and abroad. These shared experiences are at the core of our purpose.
Currently, we have sixteen members. We paint together in the studio on a few days each week but members have access to the studio all round the clock enabling them to work in solitude if they wish.
We have an annual exhibition at our studio. This year it commences on Friday 17 November (1 pm to 9 pm) and then on following Saturday and Sunday (10 am to 5 pm). Our studio is at 10 Elgin Place, Hawthorn, which runs parallel to Burwood Road between Elgin and Power Streets. You are welcome to join us.
